Our Philosophy

When our body is in a state of balance (homeostasis), it has an innate intelligence to be optimal or heal itself from dis-ease.  This balance is achieved through a combination of healing foods, fasting, proper hydration, sleep, emotional health and exercise.  When a health issue arises, it is important to understand what is going on in the body on a holistic level.  Just like a tree, when its fruit is diseased, or the leaves lack lustre, or it just appears lifeless altogether; we have to look at the environment around it.  Is the soil lacking in nutrition?  Is there too much toxicity around?  Is the climate not the right one for that tree?  Is it getting enough water?


Once we go deep enough to understand what’s going on metabolically, then we can start to create the bigger picture and go from there.

And that’s where we start with our process at Rebelwithveg.  We look at how healthy the gut is through specific questions and testing where appropriate.  No matter how complex the issue is, an anti-inflammatory, wholefood diet will form the foundation of health.

The plant kingdom contains an estimated 100,000 disease-preventing nutrients.  Did you know, for example, that sulforaphane, a compound found in cruciferous veggies, can choke cancer cells?  Or that ergothionine, a compound abundant in mushrooms, can penetrate mitochondrial membranes and repair mitochondrial damage?  Plants can truly heal us.  And the more variety we get every day the better.


There is a concept that I use called ‘food dosing’.  There are certain foods that target specific health issues. For those that want to remove/reduce their medications, we will focus on the main health issue and concentrate on including those foods in the diet in specific amounts.  For example, it has been found that pinto beans eaten in a certain amount over a certain period can reduce cholesterol more effectively and safely than statins.
